Transportation Operations Manager

Sanderson have teamed up with an energy provider to recruit a Transportation Operations Manager on a permanent basis.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Customer experience and play a crucial role in leading, motivating and managing staff and drivers to execute delivery schedules for the distribution of gas supply.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and developing the distribution team to ensure alignment with company strategy and values.
  • Prioritising customer needs in decision-making processes and ensuring employees are trained to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Leading the dispatch and scheduling functions, ensuring efficient service delivery - Identifying opportunities for process efficiency gains and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the logistics department
  • Ensuring the distribution function complies with legal requirements and safety values, and industry safety regulations.
  • Maintaining fleet safety standards, managing, and scheduling safety checks and repairs - Acting as a key contact for regulatory and statutory bodies, and being available for on-call duties in cases of emergency
  • Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track logistics operation's performance, analysing data to identify areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Delivering regular company briefings on safety and performance to all distribution employees - Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective distribution function.
  • Effectively managing the distribution's annual budget and cost control
  • Regularly reporting to senior management on distribution performance and cost analysis
  • Utilising and implementing logistics technology, such as transportation management systems (TMS) and warehouse management systems (WMS), to enhance operational efficiency and visibility.

Requirements:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills
  • Transport Management CPC
  • Experience dealing with hazardous materials
  • Ability to organise resources according to customer needs and company service levels through KPIs.
  • Sound working knowledge of current transport regulations and standards.
  • Proven experience in logistics management or a similar role with exposure to budgeting and cost control.
  • Ability to use company software packages to enhance service delivery, improve driver performance, and provide the best possible customer experience.
