Capex Accountant and Budgeting Manager

Sanderson are partnering with a leading Semi State body to recruit for a highly motivated and experienced Capex Accountant, Governance and Budgeting Manager to join a dynamic finance team. This role is ideal for a qualified accountant with a strong background in capital investment, financial reporting, and governance, who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in managing capital projects, budgeting, forecasting, and financial compliance. You'll also support strategic decision-making by ensuring that current and planned investments are fully funded and aligned with both capital and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Partner with the Investment & Reporting Controller to manage capital projects and cost reporting.
  • Support procurement in evaluating project cost estimates.
  • Track investment plans, budgets, variances, and highlight risks or issues.
  • Assist in building maintenance budgeting and monitoring of spend and commitments.

Governance, Policy and Compliance

  • Collaborate with the General Ledger team on asset register management, verifications, and disposals.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs aligned with legislative and policy frameworks.
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist in preparing materials for Capex Steering & Evaluation Committees.

Systems and Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the enhancement of financial systems and processes, including SAP.
  • Identify and implement technology solutions to improve planning and reporting efficiency.

Reporting and Communication

  • Ensure timely completion of financial, compliance, and reconciliation reporting.
  • Collaborate on asset creation and reporting following board approvals.
  • Support compliance with frameworks such as the Climate Action Framework, Public Spending Code, EU Taxonomy, and CSRD.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Qualified Accountant with at least two years post-qualification experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in investment appraisal.
  • Proven experience in capital investment accounting and financial reporting.
  • Solid understanding of financial systems, operations, and business processes.
  • Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience in project management and process improvement.
