Transactional and Transformative HR; Finding The Balance

In May 2014, RSG hosted its third round table discussion at Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill in Mayfair, London. HR professionals sat down to debate the evolution of Human Resources from its administrative functions in the 1980s to the recognition of its strategic value today, and how we can continue to revolutionise it. The conclusions drawn by this discussion are being transformed into a whitepaper, entitled ‘Transactional And Transformational HR; Finding The Balance’, where you can read contributions from each of our guests. The evening was hosted by Gillian Fox, Global Director of Talent & OE at Reckitt Benckiser, whose foreword discusses the impact HR should and could have on overall organisational strategy and argues HR’s right to a seat at the board table.

The RSG Debate highlighted the necessity of exceptional leaders and their role in the evolution of HR. Valuable light was shed on how these people can ‘future-proof’ their strategies and the whitepaper offers demonstrable steps a business can take to getting the most out of their HR Department. Participants addressed the problem of why too many organisations don’t think that their HR department is in a position to aid their business strategy; what significant differences does HR have the potential to make? How do you balance the management of human capital with the recruitment, management and motivation of people? Giving talent management and development and the HR function the opportunity to contribute to overall performance (i.e. financial performance) is the best way that HR can add value to organisations ‘whilst simultaneously managing its own evolution’.
